Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) operated eyes of another 34 insolvent and helpless patients on Thursday.
BEHRI, an ophthalmic venture of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, in association with Vision Care Foundation and Md Shahidur Rahman Shahin arranged the operations.
Under supervision of senior consultant Dr. Rubina Akther, Dr Mozumder Golam Rabbi and Dr. Tasruba Shahnaz conducted the operations on 20 male and 14 female patients.
On May 15, an eye camp was held at Morol Bari at Madaripur municipality area providing treatment to 500 patients free of cost. Of them, 60 were selected for operation. The 34 patients belong to the first group selected for the surgeries, sources said.
Mohammad Ahsan Habib, manager (HR & Admin) of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, said cost-free treatment and operation are being held for years to prevent blindness of poor and destitute people across the country.
More than 2,415 people have received cost-free operations from the BEHRI so far, he added.
